Poland

Have just returned from Warsaw the Polish Capital after a few days in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately the football result didn’t go my way (again!) but the time I had in Warsaw & Southern Poland was wonderful.

Monday involved travel & just wandering about Warsaw – in particular the Old Town quarter. It also saw several QUB lads & I setting up Football Base Camp at the Giovanni Rubino Restauracja. The food was great, the manager a legend & the waitresses… well…

Tuesday was my trip to the Concentration Camps outside Oswiecim. Both Auschwitz & Birkenau are amazing testaments to the evil nature of Mankind & a real lesson for us all. The scale is awesome & the many souls who perished there should never be forgotten.

Wednesday was football day & after congregating with several dozen NI fans in the Old Town, it was back to Base Camp before heading to the Central Gathering point in the City Centre. Then several hundred NI fans (aided by the police) marched to the Stadium. The atmosphere was amazing & although the result went to Poland, the players did themselves proud.

Thursday involved me headed across the River to the Eastern Bank, where a large Market was held. I managed to acquire a Soviet Style Hip-Flask ornament for a few bob & then headed back to the town before retiring to the Hostel (Nathan’s Hostel – which was excellent value at ~£8 a night!!) where along with some NI fans, English lads & an Australian lassie we sat out the night chatting.

Just home today & it’s been a great week. Next Journey is moving house to Hove this weekend!!

About Mcfaggen

Having grown up in Co. Fermanagh where most of my family still reside, I thought it would be worthwhile to keep a blog of my travels around the rest of the UK, Europe and the World.

  1. I haven\’t seen you on Messenger for a wile but thanks to this blog I know that you\’re still alive and busy travelling the world! You\’re obviously a very dedicated football supporter. Just a pity you lost :o) When you\’re settled in your new house you\’ll have to install the newest version of Messenger – it has some nifty little features.
