Last night I had the honour to witness Portadown FC beat Cork City in the final group game of the inaugral Setanta Cup in Cork, RoI.
All went to plan travel wise as my flight from Stansted landed in Cork around noon & I then headed to the hotel, where I met up with fellow PFC supporter & NI globe-trotter Toddy. We then wandered the streets before making our way to Turner’s Cross. The game was as expected with Cork (a professional team) taking the game to the Ports (semi-pro). However Micky Collins threaded a pass through for Gary Hamilton to run onto & he smacked a screamer of the highest quality to put the Ports one up. And we never looked back.
The locals seems to take to us alright and were gracious in defeat – apart from one chap who reckoned our parentage was questionable… but when the going is good, the going is good… and even this numpty couldn’t upset us!!
Not long now to the UEFA cup draw which Portadown have qualified for so fingers crossed for a decent away trip in July / August!!
