Australia… Getting Here…

Well, the dream is real… I’m in Australia.

A few interesting things on the journey between Hong Kong & here… well firstly I couldn’t access MSN spaces from Hong Kong airport… obviously the Chairman was watching from just across the border. Quantas have better looking air hostesses although the same lack of quality of food. Actually spent quite a lot of time talking to an Aussie who wasn’t too fussed on your average Englander… not too fussed at all. He was interesting enough although went on a bit…

Still, I’m in the first hostel… Ocean Beach Hostel in Cottesole Beach, which is just outside Perth, WA. First impressions of Aus are that it reminds me of the Med, the US and the UK all rolled into one. The houses & weather are definately Med. Pleasant sea breeze this morning, about 20 degrees so far. The signs are very USA-esque, as are the road markings in general, however, they drive on the right side of the road which brings in the UK aspect. Apparently English is the biggest ethnic group in WA so no doubt there’ll be a bit of that too.

I’ve made contact with the family & hopefully will be meeting up with Second Cousin (once removed) Gered tomorrow before travelling down to Manijup to meet up with Wayne & family (da’s cousin’s family). I’m spending a couple of days down there before travelling back into Perth. All good so far… dipping in the Indian Ocean this afternoon. Party on Garth.

About Mcfaggen

Having grown up in Co. Fermanagh where most of my family still reside, I thought it would be worthwhile to keep a blog of my travels around the rest of the UK, Europe and the World.
