For the third – yes, the third – evening in a row, I’m sat in front of my TV watching golf… Those of you in the know will understand that it is the Masters on which is being held at the Agusta National Golf Club.
I’ll openly confess to having never watched an entire evening of golf coverage ever, yet I’m mid way through my third. “Why?” you might well ask… well the answer is Rory McIlroy. The 21 year old from Northern Ireland is a bit larger than life. He deals with the media like he’s been around for ever, is very popular with his peers & considered a legend amongst Northern Ireland’s sporting fans.
At present, as he is turning on to the back nine holes of the course, he’s leading the way at 10 under par. He had a blistering first day, a steady (if unspectacular) day two and so far he’s carried on in that vein.
Watching Sky Sports’ coverage in HD has also been a treat in terms of the detail of the picture. You really can see every divot & dimple. Amusingly you can also see many a bead of sweat on the presenters as they sit in an outdoor studio in the muggy Georgia.
Perhaps the only downside to the coverage has been having to listen to Colin Montgomery blether on as if he’s talking to the golfers themselves – my brother does this when he’s watching the Arsenal on TV… guys, they can’t hear you!!… and an Amercian presenter called Butch who keeps talking about his daddy, who apparently won the thing once.
Still, hopefully Rory can hold on & win the Masters. Go on son!!
