This morning, reading the Daily Telegraph on-line I decided to read the headline “Royal Wedding: Prince William and Kate Middleton’s daughter could become Queen”. It’s the usual stuff about how the Liberals want to change the constitution and how the Torys aren’t that keen because actually it would require a change in the constitution of 16 countries within the Commonwealth as well… sounds quite complex.
However, the stand out line from Rosa Prince (the journalist who penned the piece) is the following:
“An attempt by the Labour peer Lord Dubs to alter the line of succession with a private members bill in 2005 was seen off by Tony Blair’s government.
At the time, Lord Falconer, the then lord chancellor, said that the move was not a priority, because Princes William and Harry were young and unmarried.
However, following the Royal Wedding later this month, Mr Clegg is said to believe that the matter has become more pressing, with the possibility of a baby princess arriving within a year.”
Clearly I know nothing of William & Kate’s family plans, but a baby within a year?! I’d be willing to bet a small sum that it won’t happen. I’m sure that Kate has openly talked about her plans to work after the wedding.
I hope Prince William didn’t spit his cornflakes out in shock this morning as his aide read him this story!!
