The Telegraph online carries an article today on a poll conducted amongst 11 to 18 year olds in the UK. The article focuses upon the conservative views of the kids as they aspire to achieve their dreams – with most saying we should reduce immigration & cut taxes (though a majority also wanted more spent on public services, so it wasn’t all clear cut).
The article also displayed a number of the views in graphical format… how the kids viewed J.K. Rowling as a good role model, with Coleen Rooney, Lady Gaga and Karen Brady all coming up at bad role models. Yet the stand out statistic, for me, was in relation to the question “what career would you feel proudest in telling your friends that you were pursuing?”
57% said that being an Member of Parliament would emote enough pride in them to tell their friends… yet 62% said that they would do the same if they worked for a Bank!! So take that politicians and wannabes… working for ‘the Man’ is still one step up the ladder on thinking that you do. Hoorah!!
