How much are you worth?

As the saying goes, money talks and some will even tell you that everyone has their price. Today I think both comments have been proven again. This time in bagful’s.

Samuel Eto’o Fils, a gifted footballer who has graced some of the great teams of this past decade has allegedly signed a contract with Anzhi Makhachkala, a Russian Football Club. The deal is said to be worth £21.8m to Inter, one of Italy’s glamour clubs. Frankly, that’s a shrewd bit of business by the Italians as Eto’o has just turned 30 and in footballing terms that means he’s getting towards the end of his peak and frankly his saleable value.

The somewhat remarkable bit of this deal is that Eto’o has agreed to go to Russia at all…

I say that because Eto’o has a long history of being racially abused by football supporters in Europe, disgracefully. In Spain, whilst at Barcelona he famously danced “like a monkey” because of the abuse he was taking from opposition supporters. In Italy, whilst playing for Inter a game was held up in the third minute because of the scenes & noises in Cagliari aimed at the man.

Yet you can’
t help but fear that Eto’o is jumping from the frying pan into the fire by moving to Russia – a country with a large and recent history of racist abuse aimed at black footballers. Roberto Carlos and Peter Odemwingie can both vouch for it.

So why not go for that nice quiet contract somewhere welcoming?

Well, according to SKY Sports News, Samuel Eto’o has £17.9 million reasons (after tax) to give it a go…

… that’s £1.41 million a month (after tax)

… that’s £344 thousand a week (after tax)

… that’s £49 thousand a day (after tax)

… that’s £2 thousand an hour (after tax)

… that’s £34 a minute (after tax)

… that’s £0.57 a second (after tax)

Lets fact it, in the time it’s taken you to read this blog, he’s probably earned enough to buy your PC, Mac, Laptop, iPad, Smart Phone… Clearly Samuel Eto’o Fils’ price has been found and money talked.

… but is he happy?
