Christmas & the New Year

So it’s 2012… a new year, with new expectations, hopes and dreams. It’s the year I intend to wed. There’s so much to look forward to.

As I type this, I’m back in London in my flat in Streatham and it’s a bit nippy. We actually ran out of gas in December, so there’s paranoia about using the timer on the boiler at the moment which means cold times!! I also seem to be fighting a constant battle on the thermostat… someone keeps turning it to 10 degrees centigrade!! That’s a bit much by any standard!!

I’ve been back three nights and I’ve been putting into practice my resolutions for the year… which are to be as miserly with money as I can be so that I can save for the wedding; and to be more disciplined about the way I treat my body (i.e. I’m swimming each morning & cutting out the junk). We’re paying a lot of money for wedding photos & a wedding video, I intend to look my best in both!!

Yes I appreciate that what you’ve just read is incredibly vain, but I can deal with it… and besides, my lack of a hairline keeps me humble.

I had a wonderful end to 2011. I was over home in Northern Ireland for 12 nights – split between my parents in Fermanagh & Dina in Belfast. The food was great, the weather was rubbish but the people were, as always, fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed Christmas at my parents with Dina, surrounded by my family. Christmas dinner was, as always, a beautiful feast and we all ate so handsomely and when we thought of those without this Christmas, you can’t help feel humble & thankful for the great things we have.

Over the few days I had off I got to watch Portadown FC a couple of times – a win & a loss; I got to hang out with some friends & taught Dina to shoot a shotgun – she was a very quick learner & did really well at the Clay Pigeon Shoot. We also baked some cupcakes together… a first for us both and they tasted delicious.

For New Years Eve we headed out for Dinner in Belfast & celebrated the dawn of a year full of promise… lets hope it delivers!!

About Mcfaggen

Having grown up in Co. Fermanagh where most of my family still reside, I thought it would be worthwhile to keep a blog of my travels around the rest of the UK, Europe and the World.
